How to Clean a Convertible Top – The Perfect Preparation

A clean convertible top is the foundation for long-lasting waterproofing.

The Ballistol Universal Cleaner is ideal for cleaning convertible tops. It thoroughly removes dirt from deep within the fabric without damaging delicate materials. It is suitable not only for fabric convertible tops but also for leather, synthetic leather, and many other surfaces, making it an excellent convertible top cleaner.

Once the convertible top has dried completely, it is perfectly prepared for waterproofing.

Waterproof Your Convertible Top

After cleaning, the waterproofing spray coats every individual fiber of the fabric roof with an invisible, breathable protective layer. This premium fabric protector makes the convertible top water repellent while protecting it from UV rays, dirt, and moisture.

Once the convertible top has been waterproofed, rainwater beads up and rolls off again. The fabric roof stays clean for longer, dries more quickly, and the invisible protective coating does not affect the appearance or feel of the material.

Regular maintenance and reapplying the waterproofing treatment when needed significantly extends the life of your convertible top.

Reapply Waterproofing to Your Convertible Top

Over time, every waterproofing treatment gradually loses its effectiveness as rain, sunlight, and road dirt wear down the protective barrier. For this reason, it should be reapplied regularly, especially on older convertibles whose soft tops have been exposed to the elements for many years.

With this kit, you can easily restore the protection yourself without the need for professional detailing. Care for your convertible top like a professional while saving both time and money.

Directions

1. Spray the cleaner evenly onto the fabric convertible top and work it in gently using a soft brush. Allow it to sit briefly, spray again if necessary, then rinse thoroughly with clean water.
2. Allow the convertible top to dry completely.
3. Shake the waterproofing spray well and apply an even coat from a distance of 20-30 cm (8-12 inches), avoiding multiple coats on the same area. Do not apply in direct sunlight and allow the treatment to dry for at least 2-3 hours.
4. For maximum long-term protection, apply two to three coats, allowing approximately 12 hours of drying time between each application. Depending on the size of the convertible top, an additional can of waterproofing spray may be required.
