Is Ballistol rim cleaner suitable for all types of wheels?

Yes, it is suitable for all types of wheels such as steel, aluminium and chrome wheels as well as high-gloss polished and matt wheels.

How does the colour indicator work?

The colour indicator shows the cleaning process by changing colour during use. As soon as the cleaner has turned violet, cleaning is complete and it can be rinsed off.

Is the cleaner safe for tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS)?

Yes, Ballistol rim cleaner is compatible with TPMS and also attacks neither rubber nor painted surfaces.

Does the rim cleaner contain acid?

The cleaner is acid-free. With a pH of 5.5, it is slightly acidic – between milk / mineral water (pH 6) and beer (pH 5). A strong acid is not necessary for this cleaning task and is also a risk to the material. With acidic cleaners, depending on the product, you only have a few seconds of exposure time. If you miss the moment, there is a risk to the wheels and other materials.

Is the rim cleaner alkaline?

No. Alkalis are unsuitable for most deposits in this area. Thanks to its special combination of cleaning-active substances, this is the best rim cleaner – perfectly tuned for safe yet thorough wheel cleaning.

How quickly does the rim cleaner work?

It works quickly and efficiently, so you get clean, shiny wheels in no time. And there's no stress, because you don't have to count the seconds as with strongly acidic cleaners. After a short time you'll see the colour change and can then rinse off at a normal working pace.

Can the cleaner also be used on stubborn dirt?

Yes, the rim cleaner is also very effective on stubborn dirt such as brake dust and old road grime. You can also help it along with a wheel brush or pressure washer.

Cleaning wheels – quick, easy and thorough in just two steps

Preparation: for best results with Ballistol rim cleaner, have the following to hand:

• Ballistol rim cleaner
• Hose or pressure washer
• Wheel brush and sponge
• Bucket of water
• Gloves

If present, first remove coarse and loose dirt.

1. Spray on the rim cleaner
   Spray the gel cleaner generously onto the wheels from a short distance (approx. 30 - 40 cm).
   Depending on the soiling, after 2 to 5 minutes the colour change to purple shows that the dirt has been loosened. So leave the cleaner to work for that long.
   Note: with our cleaner, the wheel doesn't need to be pre-wetted. With dry wheels, however, make sure the cleaner doesn't dry on. If the wheel is extremely wet, a cleaning product may run off too quickly. The wheel can be slightly damp, though.
2. Then rinse off completely with a strong jet of water or a pressure washer.
   If you want to avoid water spots after cleaning, dry the wheels with a microfibre cloth. Otherwise, the wheel cleaning is complete.
   For particularly stubborn dirt, e.g. with burnt-on brake dust, you can repeat the cleaning. In such cases, use a wheel brush or microfibre cloth to help if necessary.

Home remedies as rim cleaner

If you want to use as few cleaning products as possible, you can also try to remove the dirt from wheels with lots of scrubbing and water. But if you start using other products, you should know what you're doing. Oven spray or toilet cleaner, for example, are often discussed. These are usually aggressive acids formulated for other applications that can cause damage. Toothpaste has no cleaning-active substances that can dissolve brake dust or dried-on road dirt – it comes down to scrubbing, and you don't need toothpaste for that. Depending on the type, toothpaste is also an abrasive, which can make high-gloss wheels duller or scratch them in places.
