The ideal home first aid kit

Many ready-made first aid kits contain things not everyone needs, and important items are often missing. An ideal home first aid kit contains a basic set of items as recommended by the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, plus products and medicines added individually. All other ready-made first aid kits are usually a waste of money, as they often contain items that aren't needed or medicines the customer prefers in a different form – such as certain painkillers. Only you can tailor your first aid kit to your own needs.

The following aspects to consider when putting together a first aid kit alone make it clear that a completely pre-packed kit makes no sense:
Is it a single-person household or a large family with elderly people, children, teenagers or toddlers? Are there allergy sufferers in the family and what are they allergic to? Is the household in a tick risk area, a so-called TBE risk area? Are risky hobbies or leisure activities pursued, and so on.

For these reasons, our first aid kit offers an easy way to set up an ideal home first aid kit.

Contents of the first aid kit

All items listed in green are supplied with the basic first aid kit. All other items are added using the products the customer prefers.

The 54-piece first aid kit contains:

• Contents overview with expiry dates
  We have prepared an overview for you in which you can enter the medicines, their purpose and their expiry dates. This way you can always see at a glance whether something needs replacing.
• Overview of the most important emergency numbers
  We have prepared an overview for you in which you can enter your most important personal emergency numbers. So that you don't forget anything, the most important details are already filled in and you only need to add the phone numbers.
• Dressing material according to DIN 13164
  with adhesive plasters, quick-release dressings, fingertip and finger dressings, plaster strips, dressing packs, dressing cloths, wound compresses, rescue blanket, fixation bandages, triangular bandages, dressing scissors, disposable gloves, skin cleansing wipes, first aid booklet and contents list – all in the full quantities specified in DIN 13164. • Clinical thermometer
  A digital clinical thermometer for accurate measurement of body temperature.
• Tweezers for removing splinters and other small foreign bodies from the skin.
  High-quality Feilchenfeld splinter tweezers for removing all foreign bodies from wounds.
• Tick tweezers
  High-quality metal tick tweezers that allow correct tick removal. Here you can find out how to remove ticks correctly.
• Wound care product (100 ml Neo Ballistol)
  Neo Ballistol cleans, promotes wound healing, relieves itching, e.g. from insect bites, and is suitable for many other uses.
• Insect bite protection (100 ml Stichfrei insect repellent)
  Stichfrei insect repellent reliably protects for many hours against annoying and dangerous insects such as mosquitoes, horseflies, ticks etc.
• 2 cool packs / cold compresses
  Our cool packs are hot/cold compresses and are microwave-safe. It is best to always keep the compresses in the fridge – only then are they useful in an emergency. If you need heat, you can quickly and easily warm the compresses in the microwave. We supply two hot/cold compresses with the first aid kit in the following sizes: 12 x 29 cm and 13 x 14 cm.
• Lockable, sturdy and easy-to-grab "container" for the contents of the first aid kit
  We advise against permanently mounting and locking first aid kits. You can read why we recommend this under home first aid kit.
• First aid instructions
  Most people once completed a first aid course or instruction in emergency measures at the scene of an accident as part of their driving test, and don't know how to act correctly in an emergency. This short guide shows clearly and simply what matters in first aid and how to act correctly.

Use insect repellents safely. Before use always read the label and product information.

The customer adds the following items using their preferred products:

• Medicines for colds
• Painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
• Fever reducer
• Remedies for diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
• Remedy for sunburn
• Skin disinfectant
• Wound disinfectant
• Electrolytes to compensate for fluid loss (in case of vomiting or diarrhoea).
  
  Make your own electrolyte solution:
  If you have 4 tablespoons of glucose, a teaspoon of salt, half a litre of still mineral water and half a litre of fruit juice or tea at home, you don't need these ready-made mixtures. The recipe listed here has the same effect.

Possibly add the following medicines:

• Medicines prescribed by your doctor for chronic or long-term illnesses
• Medicines prescribed by your doctor for treating acute illnesses
• Individual over-the-counter remedies for your personal conditions, such as antihistamines for allergy sufferers, drops for dry eyes, mild cortisone ointments for the effects of eczema, etc.

This way you have put together the ideal first aid kit for you at the lowest possible cost.

What belongs in a first aid kit for children, toddlers and babies?

If you have children at home, the following aids and medicines are useful in addition to the items above, depending on age and development:

• Remedies for teething pain
• Cream or ointment for inflamed skin in the nappy area
• Nasal aspirator
• Saline solution (from the pharmacy) as nose drops
